When asking for money it is common for the person to offer something in return or a service. Not just asking without offering anything...

Definitely not enough, and here's why:

 

Let's say 1 diamond is worth ~10 xeebles. And 2 diamond blocks is the equivalent of 18 diamonds. 18 multiplied by 10 is 180 xeebles. Now, 180 xeebles is only 2.25% of what you want in return. If you want to get $8000 from selling diamonds you'll need to sell around 800 diamonds, or ~89 diamond blocks.

So, I would start mining.
